Sycamore Ward – Darlington
I needed an out of area bed
So Darlington it was to be
Initially I wasn’t happy
Very nervous to a certain degree
As soon as I walked in
Staff swarmed all around
Asking me lots of things
Before my feet even touched the ground
I was shown around the ward
It was refreshing, tidy and bright
Lovely pictures on all the walks
Each room giving lots of light
The rooms are all en suite
A TV in every room
The garden outside is lovely
Beautiful flowers in full bloom
All staff are open and friendly
Always willing to listen to you
They come up with suggestions
Offering ways to get you through
Every member of staff
Appear to really care
If you’re struggling or upset
You can guarantee that they’ll be there
The staff can be stern yet funny
But there are some times when I think
It shouldn’t just be me in here
The staff need to see a shrink!
It’s a relaxing and friendly atmosphere
Where everyone seems to get on
People show empathy and understanding
Possible prejudice and negativity are gone
Since I’ve been here on Sycamore
I’ve learnt new grounding skills
These are so much more helpful
Than popping a loads of pills
Holding ice cubes in my hand
Is a great way to ground
Olbas oil dripped on a towel
Also helps to bring me round
I’ve learnt a few new words
Whilst I have been on here
Mafting, clamming, Parmo and lush
I won’t use them in Leeds, that’s no fear
To all the staff on Sycamore
I’d like to say “thank you” to you all
You’ve been patient, funny and professional
Picking me up after every fall
